PRESENTATION OF COMMITTEE REPORT AND ZERO DRAFT OF REVISED INCLUSIVE EDUCATION POLICY TO THE PERMANENT SECRETARY, FEDERAL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION.

With support from Sightsavers, TAF Africa presented the Committee Report and Zero Draft of the Revised inclusive education Policy to the Permanent Secretary, of the Federal Ministry of Education. The Permanent Secretary, in his remarks, through his representative, Mr. Zubairu Abdullahi, Director Special Services, appreciated the commitment of the stakeholders and contributors towards the policy. He stated that with the revised policy there should be proper management of the educational interests of learners with disabilities. In her remarks, the representative from Sightsavers International, Esther Angulu emphasized the need for the revised policy to be approved to support the different efforts being made by stakeholders, including Sightsavers International under its SMILE intervention. She also appreciated TAF Africa and other stakeholders for the job well done. The Chairman of the project’s technical Committee, Mr. Adeleye Adeoye, in his remarks indicated that the revised policy will immediately go into the ministry’s system, pending official approval at the level of the National Council on Education. He stated that although the committee has completed its task and will be dissolved, it was only a transition to another phase of work. He appreciated Sightsavers International, TAF Africa, and all other stakeholders who made contributions to the process. Others in attendance at the presentation were the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), the Civil Society Action Coalition on Education For All (CSACEFA), and Directors and Staff from the Federal Ministry of Education. The Secretaries to the Committee, Mr. Ayo Omotomi, and Mr. Able Aisuedon, were also present.

On Tuesday, February 4th, 2026, we commenced a 2-day capacity building for journalists and other stakeholders in Delta state on the 2018 Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act.
