2023 TAF AFRICA ELECTION REPORT ON DISABILITY INCLUSION

The 2023 General Election Report sheds light on a critical aspect of the electoral process: the inclusion and participation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). With a focus on the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, and the Electoral Act of 2022, this report presents the challenges faced by PWDs with regards to their participation through the 2023 electoral process and opportunities for continuous engagement to enhance the participation of PWDs in elections. In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the rights of PWDs and the need to ensure their full and equal participation in all aspects of the society, including politics and elections. The CRPD, which was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2006 and ratified by numerous countries, including Nigeria, serves as a crucial international legal framework that promotes and protects the rights of PWDs
