Our Impact

Persons with disabilities (PwDs) in Africa, particularly Nigeria, face disproportionate barriers to economic, social, and political participation. According to the United Nations, PwDs are twice as likely to live below the poverty line, one-third more likely to be illiterate, and nearly seven times more likely to have unmet basic health needs than persons without disabilities.

These disparities reflect the structural and institutional challenges that continue to marginalise this demographic despite growing global efforts toward inclusion. In Nigeria, the World Health Organization estimated in 2019 that nearly 29 million people – about 15% of the population – were living with a disability, highlighting the urgent need for targeted interventions that address exclusion and promote equity at all levels of society

Against this backdrop, TAF Africa remains steadfast in its commitment to championing the rights and inclusion of PwDs through the implementation of intervention programs and assesses the impact of these interventions by examining key questions

What progress has been made since the inception of these interventions?

How have these interventions improved the lives of beneficiaries?

What is the perception of stakeholders regarding the effectiveness of these interventions?

What lessons have been learned, and what gaps need to be addressed for future programs?

Over the years, TAF Africa has been at the forefront of promoting the rights, inclusion, and participation of persons with disabilities (PwDs) across various spheres, including governance, economic empowerment, and human rights advocacy.

However, while significant strides have been made, several challenges have been encountered in the implementation of these projects. These challenges have often stemmed from systemic barriers, institutional gaps, and socio-economic limitations.

To strengthen future interventions and deepen impact, the following challenges are highlighted along with strategic recommendations for improvement
